Judge Dr. Mohamed A.M. Ismail

Dr. Mohamed AM Ismail is a vice-president of the Egyptian Conseil d’Etat since June 2008 and currently serves as a Judge at the Egyptian Supreme Administrative Court (contracts circuit). Dr. Ismail is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London). He is also a visiting professor and PhD examiner at various British, Egyptian, and Arab universities with a specific focus on international states’ contracts and arbitration. Dr. Ismail has previously been a lecturer and speaker at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) and the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA). Additionally, he has served as an arbitrator in various disputes pertaining to international contracts. Most notably, Dr. Ismail is the Egyptian State Prize laureate in Academic Legal Research for the year 2011.

Alongside his thirty-year career in the Egyptian judiciary, Dr. Ismail has served as a Senior Consultant to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ‘Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission’ and also the Kingdom’s Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. He was also a senior consultant to H.E the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum (responsible for the LNG project in Idko 2000-2002) and H.E the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry. He has also served as senior consultant to the General Authority for Investments and Free-zones (Gafi) in Egypt.

Dr. Ismail is a Member of the Comité Française De L’Arbitrage. He is also a member of the ‘Public Contracts in Legal Globalization’ research network at the Sciences Po University, Paris. Dr. Ismail is a member of the Transnational Administrative Law Network as one of the leading academic networks worldwide in the field of international states’ contracts. Dr. Ismail has authored many publications in Arabic and in English (13 monographs) pertaining to states’ contracts and international arbitration. He is, among very few Arab practitioners and academics, who widely published in the Middle East, UK with Routledge (3 monographs), in France and in Germany in addition to many articles in the worldwide top-ranked law journals.
