Mr. Yaochen GONG
Yaochen GONG is currently working as a Legal Officer at the International Trade Law Division of the Office of Legal Affairs, United Nations, which also serves as the Secretariat of UNCITRAL. He is in charge of issues related to the UNCITRAL Transparency Standards and technical assistance for China. He also services Working Group VI (Negotiable Cargo Documents) as well as the work programme on climate change and the law of international trade.
Before taking his current position in the UN, he worked for the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM) for 5 years, mainly focusing on WTO dispute settlement and modernization of trade policies in China. He also got experience in trade negotiations, in particular the dispute settlement chapter of bilateral free trade agreements between China and its major trading partners. Before servicing MOFCOM, he was employed by China Export Credit and Insurance Company (SINOSURE) and acquired sufficient knowledge and expertise in international commerce practice, as well as risk evaluation of Chinaβs outbound investment and other infrastructure projects going abroad.
He holds an LLB and Master of Law Degree from Nanjing University and a Master of Arts Degree from Johns Hopkins University.
