About the Course and Eligibility

The online ARM Course provides a fast-track route to the Ciarb Membership through the International Arbitration Pathway – Module 1. Upon successfully completing this course, you can apply to for the Ciarb Member grade and achieve a globally recognised (MCiarb) accreditation, gaining access to exclusive benefits for your career growth in dispute resolution. 

The ARM is not a teaching course but an assessment of the candidates’ extensive knowledge of international arbitration law and practice; as a party or party representative, required to conduct an international arbitration.

Eligibility for the ARM course is determined by a review of the applicants’ evidence submission, which should demonstrate the extensive knowledge and judgement skills required to understand and conduct an international arbitration.

ARM Assessments:

The ARM Programme is split into three parts. Candidates 3must pass ALL THREE ASSESSMENTS to be eligible to apply for the Ciarb Membership (MCiarb)

Dr. Abdel Raouf is an Egyptian Counsel and International Arbitrator, ABDEL RAOUF LAW FIRM and Associate Professor at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the German University in Cairo. He is the former Director of the CRCICA, former Chair of the Ciarb Egypt Branch, and an Approved Faculty Course Director, Tutor and Assessor at the CIArb. He is a Member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and the Board of Directors of the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration. He specializes in international arbitration and ADR, commercial contracts, investment agreements, construction, real estate and sports-related disputes.

With dual degree in Engineering and Law, and more than 30 years of experience in Construction Disputes Resolution in the Middle East, Dr. Waly acts as Arbitrator, Mediator, Adjudicator, Expert or Counsel in several ad-hoc and institutional Disputes under the rules of ICC, Paris, CRCICA, Cairo, and DIFC/LCIA, Dubai. Dr. Waly is a Fellow of the CIArb, London, a FIDIC Friendly Reviewer of the FIDIC 2017 Contracts, a Certified Expert at the Center of Disputes Resolution at the General Authority of Investment (GAFI), and a Certified Arbitrator at the Ministry of Justice, Egypt.

MCIarb
Ms. Ibrahim brings 25 years’ experience in different facets of conflict resolution, covering litigation, arbitration, mediation, restorative justice and advocacy with experience in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. She is also a policy advisor in investment climate, commercial justice and privacy with the World Bank Group and the Egyptian Ministry of Telecommunication. She is an approved tutor and assessor with the CIARB, with law degrees (Sorbonne with conversion from Cairo University); an MBA (ESLSCA); and LLM in in International & Comparative Law (American University in Cairo).

Reading Materials

Reading Materials and past papers of Module 1 International Arbitration Coursework (Assessment 3) will be released to candidates after the payment of both Registration Fee and final Assessment Fee.

The Branch will contact by email the approved applicants to join the ARM course within two weeks after the submission of Registration Form to pay the fees.

(2) Final Assessment Fee 174 GBP:

The final assessment fee 174 British Pounds must be paid separately and directly to the Ciarb Headquarters UK. The Ciarb HQ will make a direct, separate charge to each candidate.

Resit fees

In case of failure to pass any of Assessments 1, 2, and 3, candidate will not be eligible for the Ciarb Membership.

Candidates should pass the re-sit of the relevant Assessment under a subsequent ARM Course run by the Ciarb HQ or the Branch.

To evaluate your suitability to undertake the Programme, please assess your capabilities, knowledge and understanding of each of the following points on the following scales:
1. You are able to identify, explain and apply the legal procedural principles, rules and agreements relevant to the conduct of international arbitration proceedings.
2. You are able to understand and explain the contractual nature of the relationship with the arbitrators, the range and limitations of an arbitrator’s powers and jurisdiction, the rights, duties and responsibilities of a party to the arbitration proceedings.
3. You are familiar with the methods of initiating and conducting an arbitration, the relevance and roles of state courts regarding all stages during the arbitration proceedings, the requirements of an enforceable arbitral award.
4. You have a good knowledge of the UNCITRAL Model Law and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules as well as any domestic regional law, and you are able to apply their principles.
5. You are conversant with the law and practice of International Arbitration generally, whether as a party or party representative.
