The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) is pleased to launch its MediMonday Lecture Series with an inaugural lecture entitled “The Singapore Convention on Mediation: New Horizons for International Settlement Agreements,” to be held on Monday, 6 April 2026.

The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Khaled Serry Siam, Assistant Professor at Ain Shams University and Ex Chairman of The Egyptian Stock Exchange, and moderated by Ms. Fatma Ibrahim, bringing together valuable expertise and perspectives on the evolving role of mediation in international dispute resolution.

The session will explore the transformative impact of the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (2018) — widely known as the Singapore Convention on Mediation — and its role in strengthening the enforceability of cross-border mediated settlement agreements.

Held on the occasion of the Arab Republic of Egypt’s accession to the Convention, the lecture will examine how this international instrument enhances the credibility of mediation as an effective mechanism for resolving international commercial disputes. By providing a framework for the recognition and enforcement of mediated settlement agreements across jurisdictions, the Convention represents an important step toward placing mediation on a more secure and predictable footing in global dispute resolution.

The lecture will offer both a conceptual overview of the Convention’s legal framework and a practical assessment of its implications for dispute resolution practitioners, counsel, mediators, businesses, and policymakers in Egypt, the Arab region, and beyond.

Particular attention will be given to the Convention’s scope of application, enforcement mechanisms, procedural safeguards, and potential challenges in implementation, as well as the broader policy shift toward consensual dispute resolution in international commerce.

The discussion will also reflect on how Egypt’s accession to the Convention positions the country within the evolving global mediation landscape and contributes to strengthening modern dispute-resolution practices in the region.

Through the MediMonday Series, CRCICA aims to provide a platform for thought-provoking discussions on contemporary developments in mediation and alternative dispute resolution, bringing together leading practitioners and experts to exchange insights on emerging trends and best practices.
