Cairo, Egypt – April, 2025– The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its commitment to providing efficient and effective dispute resolution services: the successful completion of its first Emergency Arbitrator Case in May 2025.
Summary of the Case:
An urgent application was filed arising out of a dispute concerning a Shareholders’ Agreement that governs the relationship among the shareholders of a company.
One of the shareholders submitted an urgent application to the Centre on 26 March 2025 seeking the appointment of an Emergency Arbitrator. The Centre proceeded with the appointment of the Emergency Arbitrator within less than 24 Hours, who issued the Award on the Interim Measures on 16 April 2025.
This achievement underscores the practical impact of the updated CRCICA Arbitration Rules 2024, which introduced the Emergency Arbitrator Rules alongside other new concepts regarding Expedited Arbitration Rules, Third-Party Funding, Consolidation and more.
Understanding Emergency Arbitrator Rules
The Emergency Arbitrator Rules represent a crucial mechanism within the framework of international commercial disputes. This special procedure allows parties facing urgent situations to seek immediate interim relief before or during the constitution of the arbitral tribunal, where delays could cause irreparable harm.
Enforceability
Interim measures are enforced by Egyptian courts in accordance with Article 24 of the Egyptian Arbitration Law.
