Export & Import Strategy under New Laws of Food Safety Authority

As part of its interactions with the business community, the CRCICA has hosted an event organized by the Canada Egypt Business Council and the Egyptian Business Council for International Cooperation.

The Food Safety Authority has taken a series of measures and decisions to develop and modernize food control systems and apply the highest standards of safety and health, in a way to protect the consumer and prevent the handling of non-conforming foods.

Dr Hussein Mansour, Chairman of The National Food Safety Authority, and Mr Mahmoud Elbassyouny, Executive Director of the Chamber of Food Industries discussed the topic: “Export and Import Strategy under the New Laws of the Food Safety Authority”.

Until President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued Law No. 1 of 2017 establishing the National Food Safety Authority to witness a comprehensive change in the food safety control system. Since the issuance of Law No. 1 of 2017 establishing the National Food Safety Authority, authorities have taken a large package of measures and decisions to regulate the food commodity trading market in order to preserve citizens’ health and safety and address commercial fraud.

Dr Mansour added that the National Food Authority has developed a strategy to deal with imports aimed at reducing the time for releasing food commodities imports through several cooperation procedures with the Ministry of Finance in introducing modern technology in the process of registering and examining food commodities before their arrival in Egypt to speed up the customs release process upon their arrival in the country.

Near the end of the session, many questions and suggestions were discussed and many attendees praised the ongoing efforts of The National Food Safety Authority & the Chamber of Food Industries.
