On 9 December 2017, CRCICA entered into a significant cooperation agreement with the Permanent Court of Arbitration which is PCA’s 32nd agreement and the first one to involve an arbitral institution located in the North African region.

Held during the Cairo Conference celebrating the 50th anniversary of UNCITRAL, the signing ceremony was moderated by Prof. Nassib G. Ziadé, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA) and Vice-President of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI). Signatories to the Agreement who have signed on behalf of both institutions are Mr. Hugo Siblesz, PCA Secretary-General and Dr. Ismail Selim, CRCICA Director

The agreement promotes mutual assistance and sharing of facilities and expertise between CRCICA and PCA. By virtue of the agreement, both institutions can hold hearings and meetings in the facilities of each other and are entitled to receive assistance with the arrangement of local support services from the host institution. The CRCICA is known internationally for its State-of-the-Art hearing rooms and its headquarters enjoy immunities and privileges ensuring the necessary independent environment for the holding of the hearings of any proceeding administered by the PCA.

It is worth noting that PCA is the first permanent intergovernmental organization and one of the world’s longest established arbitration institutions established in 1899 to provide a forum for the resolution of international disputes through arbitration and other peaceful means. By signing the CRCICA/PCA agreement, the overall number of institutional cooperation agreements concluded by CRCICA is around 80 cooperation agreements.
