Dr. Mohamed Hafez , Associate Director for Legal Affairs and Business Development, CRCICA, contributed an article titled “ Remote hearings and the use of technology in arbitration” to the GAR’s Middle Eastern and African Arbitration Review 2022; one of Global Arbitration Review’s annual, yearbook-style report. This GAR’s edition covered the most substantial recent international arbitration developments across the region, curating insight from pre-eminent practitioners who work regularly in the Middle East and Africa.
Dr. Hafez’s article analysed the inclination of the arbitration users and community towards the use of videoconferencing and the rise of use of technology in remote hearings. It provided practical tips and recommendations relating to organising remote hearings, and concludes with some of the advantages of holding remote hearings, how the arbitration community and users are accepting it, and how technology paves the way for arbitration in the future. The article also approached CRCICA’s experiences with remote hearings and videoconferencing and the consent of the parties for holding remote hearings and associated problems.
