AfAA 2nd Annual International Arbitration Conference titled “Reform & Innovation in International Dispute Resolution: African Perspectives” held on 14-16 April 2021

On 16 April 2021 Dr. Ismail Selim, Director of CRCICA, represented CRCICA at the virtual AfAA 2nd Annual International Arbitration Conference titled “Reform & Innovation in International Dispute Resolution: African Perspectives” and delivered the Conference closing remarks. CRCICA supported the Conference as media partner.

The Conference tackled many important issues in its six sessions, including, for instance, the current movement toward ISDS reform from both African and international perspectives, dispute resolution in current regional investment agreements and the AfCFTA Investment Protocol. A session tackled mediation and the Singapore Convention, and other panels focused on other important topics, such as the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on dispute resolution in Africa, and The Hague Rules on Business and Human Rights Arbitration. The Conference was concluded with the announcement of the AfAA Awards 2020 winners in recognition and celebration of the contributions of African practitioners and institutions to the practice and development of international dispute resolution.

It is worth mentioning that CRCICA won two awards from among the AFAA 2020 Awards in the categories of Diversity Champions and African Institution of the Year https://afaa.ngo/page-18333
