Cairo, Egypt – 11 April 2025 – Dr. Ismail Selim, Director of the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), participated in and supported the oral hearings of the 32nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, held in Vienna, Austria, from 11 to 17 April 2025. This engagement reflects CRCICA’s ongoing and steadfast support for this prestigious global competition.
The Willem C. Vis Moot is one of the world’s foremost educational events in international commercial arbitration, uniting law students, practitioners, and academics from across the globe. Now in its 32nd edition, the Moot continues to play a vital role in shaping future arbitration professionals through rigorous academic training and real-world simulation.
This year’s case, released in October 2024, revolved around a dispute arising from a contract for the sale of a green hydrogen production plant. Governed by the rules of the Finland Arbitration Institute (FAI), the problem explored complex legal issues, including the applicability and exclusion of the CISG, the legal effects of bypassing pre-arbitration procedures, and evidentiary challenges related to document admissibility.
The oral rounds in Vienna commenced with a formal Opening Ceremony at the historic Konzerthaus and continued throughout the week at the University of Vienna and various leading law firms. Participants delivered oral pleadings before panels composed of seasoned arbitration professionals, gaining invaluable feedback and experience. The event was further enriched by a vibrant social and networking programme, offering opportunities to build lasting connections within the global arbitration community.
CRCICA has long been a proud partner and active supporter of the Vis Moot. Dr. Selim’s participation reaffirms CRCICA’s deep-rooted commitment to fostering excellence in international commercial arbitration and investing in the development of the next generation of legal minds.
