December 2025, Baghdad As part of CRCICA’s ongoing outreach, Prof. Dr. Ismail Selim, Director of the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) visited Baghdad, the Republic of Iraq, promoting CRCICA’s services, its diverse and growing caseload in 2025, expanding its presence in the Arab region, and strengthening institutional cooperation.
He participated in the Forum on Commercial Arbitration held on 1 December 2025. The event, organized by the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce (FICC), ICC Iraq, the State Council, Etihad Law Firm, and UNDP’s EU-funded ACAI Project, brought together key national institutions and international experts to discuss Iraq’s evolving arbitration landscape.
Dr. Selim contributed to the first panel, “Building the Future of Arbitration in Iraq through Global Expertise,” alongside distinguished experts, bringing comparative insights from CRCICA’s institutional experience and regional practice. A second panel examined the roles of national stakeholders in shaping the future of arbitration in Iraq, reinforcing the need for collaboration between the judiciary, government entities, academia, and the private sector.
As part of Iraqi Arbitration Week, Dr. Selim also co-delivered a specialized training workshop entitled “International Commercial Arbitration for In-House Legal Counsel,” organized by FICC in cooperation with the State Council, ICC Iraq, UNDP Iraq, and Etihad Law Firm Ltd, with Progress Group Limited managing the event. The workshop gathered legal advisors from government bodies and the private sector to strengthen national capabilities in arbitration, including drafting arbitration clauses in line with UNCITRAL and ICC standards and applying modern case-management tools.
In addition to his participation in the forum and training program, Dr. Selim visited Al-Tamimi & Company in Baghdad, where he met with partners and senior practitioners to introduce CRCICA’s latest developments and explore opportunities for professional collaboration and future engagement.
This visit reflects CRCICA’s firm commitment to supporting arbitration reform efforts in Iraq and strengthening partnerships across the region. CRCICA looks forward to continued cooperation with Iraqi institutions, legal practitioners, and development partners to promote modern, accessible, and internationally recognized arbitration frameworks.
