As part of London International Disputes Week (LIDW) 2025, CRCICA was proud to participate in a high-level panel discussion addressing the evolving role of arbitration institutions in a changing global landscape. Representing CRCICA, Mr. Tarek Badawy — member of CRCICA’s Advisory Committee and Partner at Meysan — highlighted key aspects of the Centre’s operations, values, and global positioning.
Mr Badawy spoke about CRCICA’s well-established independence, emphasizing that the Centre was founded by treaty under the auspices of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) and has preserved its independent status for 46 years. He explained that this independence is reflected in many ways, including the diplomatic immunity enjoyed by senior officers, immunity of CRCICA’s assets against seizure, and the contractual immunity of arbitrators under the CRCICA Rules — except in cases of fraud or gross negligence.
The panel also explored CRCICA’s strategic global expansion. Mr. Badawy noted the Centre’s unique distinction as the first arbitration institution from Africa and the Arab region to be registered in Russia as a Permanent Arbitration Institution, alongside globally recognized institutions such as the ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, and VIAC.
In addition, Mr. Badawy highlighted CRCICA’s sustained efforts to enhance diversity in arbitration. He shared recent statistics demonstrating a growing number of appointments of younger, female, and non-Egyptian arbitrators — reflecting CRCICA’s commitment to inclusivity and balanced representation in international arbitration.
CRCICA is proud to contribute to global dialogues on best practices in arbitration and looks forward to further international collaborations that advance fairness, diversity, and institutional integrity in dispute resolution.
