Riyadh, KSA – February 24, 2025 – Dr. Ismail Selim, Director of the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), participated as a distinguished panelist at the 2nd edition of GAR Live: Riyadh, as a part of Riyadh International Disputes Week, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on February 24, 2025. The event brought together leading figures in international arbitration to explore the future of arbitration, institutional challenges, and the evolving role of courts in supporting arbitration proceedings.
Dr. Selim joined a panel of renowned arbitration experts, including Audley Sheppard KC (Twenty Essex), Fatema Al Zayed Al Jalahma (Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution), Chris Alberti (Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration), Khaled Elgarhe (Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration), and Robert Stephen (Dubai International Arbitration Centre). The session, titled “The Institution Roundtable,” addressed critical topics such as regional developments in arbitration, the role of courts in enhancing efficiency, and the effectiveness of tools like expedited procedures, consolidation, and joinder.
During the panel, Dr. Selim provided an insightful overview of CRCICA’s structure, and governance, highlighting the Centre’s contributions through practice notes and its proactive engagement with stakeholders, including Egyptian courts. A key highlight of his presentation was the introduction of CRCICA’s new Expedited Rules—a groundbreaking initiative designed to streamline arbitration by combining speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. With these rules, cases are typically resolved within three to six months, offering parties a clear, predictable process with transparent fee agreements and reduced costs. Available on an opt-in basis, these rules are rapidly gaining traction among legal practitioners, who are encouraged to incorporate them into agreements. Participants were directed to the CRCICA Cost Calculator for precise cost estimates.
In his dual role as Director of CRCICA and President of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI), Dr. Selim continues to promote global cooperation among arbitration institutions.
