A delegation of the Shanghai Arbitration Commission headed by its Chairman Mr. Wang Xinfang visited CRCICA on 10 October 2019. Dr. Mohamed Hafez, Counsel and Legal Advisor to the Director, introduced CRCICA through a presentation focused on the role and activities of CRCICA in the region, and highlighted CRCICA’s role as the most cost-effective compared to other arbitration institutions according to the 2018 GAR’s “Arbitration Costs Compared”, CRCICA’s caseload.
Members of the delegation were particularly interested in CRCICA’s arbitration rules and procedures for the selection of arbitrators, and the role of the Egyptian government in support of arbitration.
Discussions also included a brief about CRCICA’s strong relation with China; and CRCICA role in organizing the Conference on the “Belt and Road Arbitration Initiative” held on 9 May 2017 in China in partnership with the Beijing Arbitration Commission /Beijing International Arbitration Center (the “BAC/BIAC”) and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (the “KLRCA”).
CRCICA was the institutional representative of Africa in the Belt and Road Arbitration Initiative Agreement with BIAC and KLRCA as well as the Conference on “The Belt and Road Initiative: Economic Legal Landscape and Dispute Settlement” in cooperation with BIAC and KLRCA on 12 December 2017 at CRCICA’s premises.
