Webinar: Navigating Major FIDIC Amendments Across the MENA Region – Part 1

7 August 2024 – Webinar: Navigating Major FIDIC Amendments Across the MENA Region – Part 1

The construction industry in the MENA region has for decades been witnessing a significant trend: the imposition of major amendments to FIDIC contracts. These major amendments invariably disturb the balanced risk allocation in the FIDIC contracts by shifting obligations disproportionately between the contracting parties, eventually leading to the propagation of claims and disputes. This trend resulted, among other reasons, in FIDIC’s issuance of the Golden Principles in 2019.

Webinar took place on August 7,2024,  co-organized with The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), which is the first of a series of events aimed to address these critical amendments. Eng. Maged Raouf Fayek, Contracts & Claims Director, Head Office, Contracting & Construction Enterprises Limited at (CCE), Saudi Arabia discussed his research on this topic on numerous FIDIC contracts in MENA, while Dr. Waleed El Nemr, Vice Chair Ciarb Egypt Branch, moderated.

The webinar featured a debate between the speaker and moderator, as Eng. Maged presented the contractors’ side while Dr. Waleed addressed the Engineer’s side. This event was an interactive event, as attendees were asked to participate throughout the debate (not just through questions at the end).
