Arbitration and COVID-19 Joint Statement

On 16 April 2020, CRCICA contributed a group of leading international arbitral institutions to publish a joint Statement in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The Statement was a message of solidarity and cooperation where arbitral institutions which affirmed their commitment to work together to provide an effective response to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Statement “The joint ambition of our institutions is to support international arbitration’s ability to contribute to stability and foreseeability in a highly unstable environment, including by ensuring that pending cases may continue and that parties may have their cases heard without undue delay.”

The Statement stressed on the importance of cooperation and the best use of digital technologies to work remotely during pandemic.

In addition to CRCICA, the Statement was issued by the following institutions: the German Arbitration Institute (DIS), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), American Arbitration Association (AAA), International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Milan Chamber of Arbitration, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), and the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI).

It is worth mentioning that in July 2020, CRCICA was shortlisted for the GAR’s “special recognition award for response to the coronavirus pandemic” for the measures CRCICA has taken to support its users in response to the Covid19 pandemic as reflected in the joint Statement.
