OECD SCZone Supporting the Development of the SCZone, Phase II: Technical Meeting on Investment and Infrastructure Governance

On 17 October 2019, Dr. Selim was invited by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to represent CRCICA at the Technical Meeting on Investment and Infrastructure Governance. The meeting was organized by OECD and the Suez Canal Economic Zone, as phase II of the EU-OECD project; supporting the development of the SCZone, and assisting the SCZone Authority in identifying and prioritising the policy actions needed to develop a dynamic and sustainable economic zone. The meeting aimed to sharing the best practices on dispute prevention in the SCZone; in terms of investment prevention from other regions. Moreover, it represented a wider national dialogue open to important stakeholders in Egypt, including mediation centres.

The agenda focused on maximising the investment promotion role and impact of the SCZone authority, establishing Investment Dispute Prevention Mechanisms in the SCZone, and improving infrastructure governance in the SCZone. Following an extensive process of consultations with stakeholders, three priority pillars were identified: supporting the Authority of the SCZone in building capacity to design and implement key regulations in strategic areas, developing a sustainable model of infrastructure development, and improving connectivity and integration of the SCZone infrastructure and activities into the domestic and global economy.
