On 24-26 November 2017, the First CAJAC (China-Africa Joint Arbitration Centre) International Conference on China-Africa Arbitration was held under the title “From Vision to Action” in Cape Town, South Africa by the media-support of various regional institutions including CRCICA. The (CAJAC) is a landmark multi-lateral partnership between leading Chinese and African arbitral institutions created to ensure a comprehensive dispute resolution mechanism acceptable to Chinese and African business, investment and legal communities.

Dr. Ismail Selim delivered a speech in representation of CRCICA as the oldest African arbitration institution. The speech outlined CRCICA’s strategic vision to support and respond to Sino-African cooperation since its hosting of the first FOCAC Legal Forum in December 2009 in Cairo / Egypt. This vision kept developing and evolving, he confirmed, to reflect recent developments under Sino-African cooperation; CRCICA represented the African Continent in a significant Belt and Road Arbitration Initiative Agreement with BIAC and KLRCA (now Asian International Arbitration Centre AIAC) in 2017 and is now pleased to see the strength the CAJAC enterprise lends to the backbone of Sino-African legal collaborations.

Attended by more than 200 legal and business officials, the Conference included 12 sessions introducing the CAJAC vision towards ensuring fair, fast and effective cross-continental dispute resolution of trade, investment and international commercial disputes between China and Africa. The Conference witnessed a signing Ceremony for new CAJAC members and a moot competition with participation from Chinese and African Universities.
