On Tuesday, 19 November 2024, CRCICA participated in the 5th World Conference on International Arbitration, held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Hosted at the Waldorf Astoria Lusail Hotel in Doha, Qatar, the conference brought together leading arbitration practitioners, institutions, and policymakers to explore the evolving landscape of arbitration in the MENA region under the theme “Arbitration in the MENA Region – Present and Future.”
Representing CRCICA, Dr. Ismail Selim, the Centre’s Director and President of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI), joined a distinguished panel alongside esteemed arbitration experts, including Prof. Dr. Nayla Comair-Obeid, Ms. Catherine Dixon, Ms. Judith Knepper, and Dr. Hamed Merah. Moderated by Mr. Sultan Al-Abdullah, the session featured a dynamic and engaging discussion that spanned 90 minutes, offering in-depth perspectives on key developments shaping arbitration in the region.
During his presentation, Dr. Selim highlighted CRCICA’s pioneering role in advancing arbitration practices, emphasizing its legacy, neutrality, and growing reputation for handling complex disputes involving public entities and international organizations. He introduced the newly launched 2024 CRCICA Arbitration Rules, which incorporate provisions for expedited proceedings, emergency arbitrators, and the integration of technology to enable online filings and hybrid hearings. These developments reflect CRCICA’s commitment to innovation and its alignment with global arbitration standards.
Beyond procedural advancements, Dr. Selim underscored CRCICA’s increasingly diverse caseload, reaffirming its reputation for delivering cost-effective and high-quality dispute resolution services. He also spoke about the Centre’s role as a trusted institution, earning endorsements from prominent arbitration authorities and expanding its influence in the international arbitration community.
