On 3-5 March 2020, Dr. Ismail Selim represented CRCICA at the “Arab Conference for Sports Law” was organized in Cairo by the Arab Organization for Administrative Development and the Egyptian Olympic Committee under the patronage of Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports.
Dr. Selim moderated the first session titled: “Sports Law and the Establishment of Principles for the Settlement of Sports Disputes”. The conference highlighted the importance of sports law, and the means of settling sports disputes under the principles of the Olympic Charter. Approaching the settlement of disputes of professional contracts and outlining the special nature of sports arbitration and sports arbitrators were also discussed, besides shedding light on the procedures of arbitration at the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) and evaluating the procedures of sports arbitration under some national Arab laws.
The attendees were representatives of the Arab sports ministries and sports bodies, Arab Olympic committees, Arab national sports federations, Arab sports centers and committee, Arab syndicates, associations of lawyers, Arab faculties of law and physical education, Arab sports media organizations, and many journalists.
It is worth highlighting that CRCICA was the Regional Partner of the 7th AIAF Congress held in Cairo on the 23rd & 24th of October 2019, which was organized for the first time in Africa by the International Association of Football Lawyers (AIAF) in partnership with Sports Makers & Football Legal under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sport. While the Official Partner was the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the Local Partner was Ibrachy Legal Consultancy.
It is also worth noting that the CRCICA is the sole Alternative Hearing Centre (AHC) of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Africa by virtue of the agreement concluded on 4 July 2012 between CRCICA and the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS).
