CRCICA Board of Trustees Meeting, 10 December 2017

On 10 December 2017, the CRCICA Board of Trustees (BOT) held its annual meeting at CRCICA Premises. The meeting was presided by Dr. Nabil ELARABY (Chairman), supported by two Vice-Chairs; Coun. Amin EL MAHDY (Vice-Chair / Egypt) and Prince Dr. Bandar Ben Salman Al SAUD (Vice-Chair Elect / Saudi Arabia). Attending Members were Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sadek EL KOSHERI (Egypt), Coun. Dr. Adel F. KOURA (Egypt), Dr. Ziad BAHAA-ELDIN (Egypt), Prof. Bernardo M. CREMADES (Spain), Mr. Philippe LEBOULANGER (France), Dr. Nayla Comair OBEID (Lebanon), Prof. Alain PELLET (France), Dr. Hani SARIE ELDIN (Egypt), and Mr. Michael SCHNEIDER (Germany). In representation of CRCICA, Dr. Ismail Selim, Director and Dr. Dalia Hussein, Deputy Director also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, in support of CRCICA’s strategic vision of diversity and global integration, the Board appointed seven new members with the ratio of 5:2 (non-Egyptians: Egyptians), taking the overall number of BOT members to 25 representing 13 countries; Bahrain, Cameroon, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Lebanon, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Spain and Sweden.

The new BOT members are:

  1. Prof. Dr. Mohamed ABDEL RAOUF, Partner and Head of Arbitration Group at Abdel Raouf Law Firm (Egypt)
  2. Sheikha Haya Rashed AL KHALIFA, Principal Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, Attorneys at Law & Legal Consultants (Bahrain)
  3. Mr. Ulf FRANKE, Honorary Chairman of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) (Sweden)
  4. Prof. Emmanuel GAILLARD, Partner at Shearman & Sterling (France)
  5. Dr. Gaston KENFACK, President of the Association for the Promotion of Arbitration in Africa (APAA) (Cameroon)
  6. Prof. Dr. Fathi WALY, Professor of Law – Former Dean of Faculty of Law, Vice- President of Cairo University (Egypt)
  7. Prof. Nassib ZIADÉ, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR – AAA) (Chile – Lebanon)

The new appointments are effective as of 1 January 2018.

During the meeting, CRCICA Director provided a presentation to the Board on the Centre’s activities and caseload in 2016-2017, the administrative and managerial developments in 2017 as well as its audited financial statement of operations for the year ending on 31 December 2016.

The BOT unanimously recognised the hard work and achievements of the CRCICA over the past year. Moreover, the BOT has also expressed its acknowledgment of the efforts, devotion and loyalty of Dr. Hamza Haddad (Jordan) the former Vice-President of the BOT who resigned as of 1 January 2018 due to his willingness to take a sabbatical for the year 2018.
