CRCICA Hosts CIArb Cairo Wednesday One Seminar: Arbitration in the UAE: Theory and Application

Dr. Hassan Arab, Partner and Co-Head of Litigation at Al Tamimi & Company, delivered a lecture titled “Arbitration in the UAE: Theory and Application” on 12 July 2017. Dr Arab presented an overview about the Arbitration in the UAE. He focused on the challenges facing the development of Arbitration in the UAE including the practical implications caused on the enforcement process of foreign and international awards due to the lack of the concept of international arbitration in the current arbitration legislation. Dr Arab examined whether UAE’s accession to the New York Convention has changed the trend towards positive enforcement process. The lecture was moderated by Prof. Mohamed S. Abdelwahab, Vice-President of the CIArb Cairo Branch, Chair of Private International Law and Professor of Dispute Resolution at Cairo University; Founding Partner and Head of International Arbitration, Zulficar & Partners Law Firm and was followed by lively discussions.
