Participation as Arbitrator at the 27th Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot

On 4-9 April 2020, CRCICA was represented by Ms. Malak Lotfi, Case Manager & Legal Researcher, at the 27th Annual WILLEM C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The Vis Moot was organized by the Association for the Organisation and Promotion of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the Seventeenth Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Hong Kong). Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the Moot was not held in Vienna as usual and was conducted virtually for the first time.

Ms. Lotfy acted as an arbitrator, both for ranking the written memoranda and during the oral pleadings. She outlined that the smooth feasibility of online hearings, thanks to the support of the organizers, was a good training for teams and arbitrators for virtual pleadings in practice.

The exceptional yet successful virtual moot was well received by the Vis Moot community including 250 teams. Virtual oral hearings, with more than 3,500 participants from all over the world, turned the Moot into the largest Virtual Hearing Centre. The winner of the 27th Vis Moot was the team from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Science.
