On 24 November 2020, the CRCICA’s Board of Trustees (BOT) presided by Dr. Nabil ELARABY (Chairman) held its annual meeting virtually due to the Covid-19 precautions; however, some BOT members residing in Egypt attended physically at the CRCICA’s premises.
The BOT members voted unanimously on the renewal of Dr. Ismail Selim’s mandate as Director of CRCICA for a second 4years term ending in 2024, in accordance with Article 4(a) of the By-laws of the BOT.
CRCICA’s Director, Dr. Ismail Selim presented the Centre’s activities and caseload in 2019-2020, the administrative and managerial developments in 2020 as well as excerpts of its audited financial statement of operations for the year ending.
One of the main highlights of the meeting was the appointment of new distinguished members in the BOT. Namely, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Sameh AMR, Professor, and Chair of International Law, Cairo University, Independent Arbitrator, Attorney-at-Law [Cairo] Consultant [Paris] (Egypt), Dr. Abdulla Musfir Al-HAYYAN, Associate Professor of Law (Kuwait University), Consultant, Partner International Legal Group (Kuwait), Mr. Taher HOZAYEN, Arbitrator and Lawyer, Mackean Law Firm – The House of Advocacy & Legal Research (Egypt), Mr. Vladimir KHVALEI, Partner and Head of CIS Dispute Resolution Practice Group, Baker & McKenzie (Moscow Branch), Vice President, ICC International Court of Arbitration (Russia), Chief Christopher Bayo OJO, President of the African Arbitration Association (AfAA), Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Nigeria), Ms. Qin YUXIU, Research Fellow, China State Construction Strategic Research Institute, Former General Counsel and General Manager of Legal Affairs Department of CSCEC arbitrators of CIETAC, BAC, SCIA, etc.(China). CRCICA is proud to have such eminent experts as members of its Board and trusts that they will enhance CRCICA’s role in the development of international commercial arbitration.
On a separate note, the BOT Chairman and two Vice-Chairmen were elected or re-elected (as the case may be) for a new 4-year term ending on 30 April 2024, in accordance with Article 2 of the By-laws of the BOT. In this respect, H.E. Dr. Nabil ELARABY (Egypt) and H.E. Prince Dr. Bandar Bin Salman ALSEOUD (KSA) have been respectively re-elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the BOT while Prof. Dr. Mohamed ABDEL RAOUF (Egypt) has been elected as Vice Chairman of the BOT.
It is worth mentioning that the following former members have retired having each served their term which has ended on 30 April 2021:
• Mr. Ulf FRANKE – Board Member, (Sweden);
• Prof. Emmanuel GAILLARD – Board Member, (France);
• Judge Xue HANQIN – Board Member, (China);
• Ms. Funke Adekoya SAN – Board Member, (Nigeria);
