On 9 April 2020, CRCICA’s Advisory Committee held virtually, via Zoom, its first quarterly meeting in 2020. The meeting was Chaired by Counsellor Dr. Borhan AMRALLAH and was attended by Mr. Ahmed Ouerfelli (Tunisia), Dr Emilia Onyema (Britain – Nigeria), Dr. Karim Hafez (Egypt), Mr. Lijun CAO (China), Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf (Egypt), Prof. Dr. Mohamed S. Abdel Wahab (Egypt), Dr. Nassib Ziadé (Bahrain – Lebanon), Prof. Dr. Philippe Leboulanger (France), Ms. Rabab Yasseen (Switzerland – Iraq), and Ms. Samaa Haridi (USA – Egypt). Dr. Ismail Selim, CRCICA’s Director and Dr. Dalia Hussein, Deputy Director, attended the meeting form CRCICA.
During the meeting, amendment of the AC By-laws was approved to increase the number of the AC members in order ensure gender and geographical diversity and to introduce members specialized in ADR mechanisms and international trade. The AC also amended Article 3 of the By-laws to provide that the decisions of tripartite committees related to the removal and challenge of arbitrators shall be reasoned. This amendment came to reinforce the legitimacy and transparency of the tripartite committees’ decisions. It also reflects the current practice of the committees, which provide reasons for most of their decisions.
