Workshop on CRCICA Dispute Board Rules
Sep 03 2022
On 3-4 September 2022, the Egypt Branch organized jointly with CRCICA the first Training Workshop on CRCICA Dispute Board Rules, held at CRCICA (the seat of the Branch). The speakers were Eng. Aisha Nadar, Infrastructure Procurement and Dispute Management at Advokatfirman Runeland AB Law Firm (Sweden/USA/Egypt) who tutored virtually and Dr. Ahmed Waly, Managing Partner, WALY – Arbitration and Contract Administration Firm (Egypt) who tutored in-person. In addition to the distinguished experience of the speakers, they were members of the expert Committee which drafted the DB Rules. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Dalia Hussein, CRCICA Deputy Director and Branch Honorary Secretary.
The Workshop combined lectures and role plays. Participants were divided into groups that addressed real cases and written exercises, either as parties or as DB members, applying the new CRCICA DB Rules. Participants received certificates of attendance after the workshop.
It is worth noting that CRCICA DB Rules were issued in Arabic and English and entered into force on 1 August 2022. They provide a prompt, cost-effective and impartial dispute avoidance and resolution mechanism adapted to all types and sizes of construction projects.

CRCICA Supports the 29th Willem C. Vis Moot Vienna
Apr 08 2022
CRCICA supported and sponsored the 29th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot held during 8-14 April 2022. The moot was conducted virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the moot included some social bubbles (meeting places for local teams, coaches and arbitrators) to give the opportunity for people to meet in smaller groups for social activities and networking considering travel restrictions and capacity restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The moot was a success as many students were already familiar with online learning which made it easier for them to perform in a virtual moot. The numerous pre-moots which happened also virtually, provided a good practice for teams and arbitrators a like.
The Vis Moot was organized by Association for the Organisation and Promotion of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and Eighteenth Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot Hong Kong. The case was arbitrated under the Asian International Arbitration Centre Rules. The winning team was Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. For more information about the moot problem and results, please click here

AlexU-CRCICA Vis Pre-Moot
Mar 23 2022
On 23-24 March 2022, the AlexU-CRCICA Vis Pre-Moot was held in a hybrid format at the premises of CRCICA. This third edition of the AlexU-CRCICA Vis Pre-Moot featured some surprises including Virtual Internship Awards for oralists demonstrating outstanding performance in the oral hearing rounds.
One of the participants, notably, attending virtually from China, held up until the semi-final rounds, with close to 12 hours of oral submissions, which he made on behalf of his entire team, after such team had to leave the event due to time-zone difference.
This outstanding and remarkable student baffled the arbitrators, qualifying his team up until the very semi-final, and convincing the minority of the tribunal even then, to select him for the final (with one arbitrator dissenting over the other team’s victory over his single performance).
The AlexandriaU-CRCICA Pre-Moot is an international legal education event and a “Sponsor Pre-Moot” for the international long-standing moot competitions of “the Willem C. Vis and the Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moots”, which are held annually in Vienna, Austria and Hong Kong SAR, respectively.
This event targets to assemble law students from different universities, enhance their capabilities, thereby equipping them in order to be able to meet the market demands to promote mutual understanding within the legal communities and facilitates the exchange of knowledge.
